If your qualifying income puts you in scope for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, here are your four quarterly update deadlines for the 2026/27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027), using HMRC’s standard quarters.
| Quarter | Period | Due date |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | 6 Apr 2026 – 5 Jul 2026 | 5 Aug 2026 |
| Q2 | 6 Jul 2026 – 5 Oct 2026 | 5 Nov 2026 |
| Q3 | 6 Oct 2026 – 5 Jan 2027 | 5 Feb 2027 |
| Q4 | 6 Jan 2027 – 5 Apr 2027 | 5 May 2027 |
Each due date is one calendar month after the quarter ends. Use our free deadline calculator to get these dates for any tax year, plus a calendar file (.ics) you can add straight to your phone or laptop calendar.
What a quarterly update actually is
A quarterly update is a running summary of your income and expenses for that period, not a tax bill, and not the same as your Self Assessment return. Read what Making Tax Digital for Income Tax actually is for the full picture.
What happens after the four quarters
At the end of the tax year, you’ll still need to confirm your final figures, similar to today’s Self Assessment process. That part of MTD isn’t changing yet.
